When you can't sleep
3 a.m., the phone in your hand and your mind will not stop. A few honest words for the long nights.
The mind that won’t switch off
Work, money, family, the news, a conversation you keep replaying. The body is tired but the mind keeps running. You are not the only one awake.
What Isa said about worry
Isa looked at the birds and said: “See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they? Which of you by being anxious, can add one moment to his lifespan?” (Matthew 6:26–27). He was not saying your worries are silly. He was saying you are not alone with them, and that you are worth more than you think.
He also said: “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.” (John 14:27).
Small things that help
- Put the phone face down, or in another room, for the last half hour.
- Write the worry on paper. Naming it makes it smaller.
- Breathe slowly: in for four, out for six, a few times.
- Read one short chapter of the Injil, or press “Listen” and let someone read it to you.
If it’s more than sleepless nights
If the heaviness lasts for weeks, or you have thoughts of hurting yourself, please talk to someone you trust or a doctor today. Your life matters.
