Who is Isa al-Masih?
A prophet? A teacher? More than that? People have asked for two thousand years. Here we talk about it calmly.
An old question, and a new one
Many of us grew up hearing the name of Isa al-Masih with respect. We know he is the son of Maryam, that he worked miracles, that he holds a high place. But few of us have sat down and read his story from beginning to end.
What does the Injil say about him?
The Injil tells of Isa who healed the sick, sat with the people society rejected, and forgave people who thought they did not deserve it. Once they asked him: which commandment matters most? He said: love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37–39).
Why does he still matter today?
Because he did not speak about God from a distance. The Injil says he brought God close, so close that he said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). A big sentence, and one worth stopping at to ask: what did he mean?
Where to start
If you want to know him up close, the easiest way is to read the Gospel of Luke. Twenty-four short chapters; you can finish them in two weeks. Read while asking: who is this person, and what does he mean for me?
If you have a question
There is no small or wrong question. Write to us in the question box, without a name, and a real person will reply.
