Can God forgive me after everything?
Some things we did stay with us for years. What did Isa al-Masih say to people who thought they had gone too far?
The question that comes back at night
Maybe nobody knows what you did. Maybe everybody does. Either way, the question returns: can God really forgive me?
The story Isa told
Isa told a story about a son who took his share of his father’s money, left home and wasted it all. When he had nothing left, he decided to go back and ask to be treated like a servant. But this is what happened: “He arose and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, and ran, fell on his neck, and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20).
The father did not wait for an apology. He ran.
Not the people who had it together
Isa spent his time with people others had written off. When people complained, he said: “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10). The lost are not a problem to him. They are the reason he came.
What this does not mean
Forgiveness does not mean what you did was small, or that it didn’t hurt anyone. It means the weight does not have to stay on you forever.
If you want to talk
You can write to us without your name and tell us as much or as little as you want. A real person will read it, and nobody will judge you.
Questions people ask
What if I keep doing the same thing?
You are not the first to ask this. Isa met people in the middle of their struggle, not after they had fixed it. Write to us; you can talk it through privately.
